Santa Fe’s Living Room Since 1905
For more than a century, Plaza Cafe Downtown has been part of the everyday rhythm of Santa Fe—where mornings begin, conversations linger, and generations return again and again.
Located in the heart of the historic plaza, Plaza Cafe is one of the oldest restaurants in Santa Fe and a longtime favorite for both locals and visitors looking for breakfast, lunch, and classic New Mexican comfort food.
Our menu features beloved staples like huevos rancheros, green chile cheeseburgers, and traditional American breakfast favorites—served consistently, without pretense, and always with warmth.
But what makes Plaza Cafe special isn’t just what’s on the plate—it’s what happens around it. The same tables, the same faces, the same sense that this place belongs to the people who walk through its doors.
Whether you’re searching for the best breakfast in Santa Fe, a casual lunch near the plaza, or a place that truly reflects the spirit of the city, Plaza Cafe Downtown remains what it has always been:
A gathering place at the center of Santa Fe.
This is where the city comes to eat.
OUR STORY
Our Story
Plaza Cafe Downtown has been part of Santa Fe since 1905, long before the city became a destination. Set in the heart of the historic plaza, it has grown alongside the community—welcoming locals, travelers, artists, and families into a space that feels both familiar and enduring.
In 1947, Dan (Dionysios) Razatos, a Greek immigrant, and his wife Beneranda, a Santa Fe native, took ownership of the cafe. Together, they built a family-run restaurant grounded in hospitality, community, and a deep respect for the flavors of New Mexico—shaping the foundation that still defines Plaza Cafe today.
Over time, it has become more than a restaurant. It’s a place people return to without thinking twice—where mornings begin over coffee, where lunch stretches into conversation, and where traditions quietly take hold.
What defines Plaza Cafe isn’t just its history, but its continuity. Many of the same faces have been part of this place for decades. Some of our team members have been here more than 20 years, and one for over 40—creating a sense of familiarity and trust that guests feel the moment they walk through the door.
The menu reflects that same approach: New Mexican comfort food and American classics, prepared simply and served the way they always have been. Dishes people recognize, rely on, and return for—whether they’re visiting Santa Fe for the first time or have been coming here their whole lives.
As one of the oldest restaurants in Santa Fe, Plaza Cafe Downtown remains rooted in what matters most: a welcoming atmosphere, honest food, and a place that belongs to its community.
It doesn’t try to redefine itself.
It simply continues—just as it always has.
